I read nightly to my boys. It is one of my favorite and their favorite parts of our day. Audio books in the car after school drop off are my current way to get my personal reading in.

By the way, these ideas could be used to develop not only reading habit, but also writing or home workout. I’ve already got the habit down, but I want them to try and read more. I’ll have to take your advice and read to my kids 20 minutes each night, to see if that will help them.

I started with a reading goal for the year and I was fine till last month. Just four months into the challenge I am already struggling. Thanks for sharing this!

So, as you recommend in tip #3 reading with children should start very early and there’s no reason it should end in the tween years. In fact by carefully choosing books (tip #5) you can inspire big-hearted discussions with your children about a host of topics that might not otherwise be a part of everyday conversation. (We offer recommendations on our site). Thanks for your post!

Now I have 4 children, a blog and try to read in Spanish, the only time I get to read novels in English is to my kids. They are on track to being book worms too. The thought of a spread sheet turns me pale though…I can hardly manage to keep up with the ones I actually need to! ;)

I just wrote about how important reading is to me, and how (like you) I stopped making time for it (but 100 books a year, that’s impressive!). I’ve been reading more with my son (who is one and a half) and it has lit the spark again! I will definitely be using these tips. Thanks so much!

They are a great way to maximize long driving hours.. and get daily reading done without really worrying about stressing out. An hour of audio listening a day can deliver most books in one week.
