Forget Peppa Pig and load up these instead.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>When it comes to videos for kids, YouTube is full of junk &ndash; some of them <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2017\/11\/04\/business\/media\/youtube-kids-paw-patrol.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">more disturbing<\/a> than others. To wade through it all, my personal guideline for what I&rsquo;ll let my kids watch is this:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>Would I sit down and watch this alongside my child?<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If the idea of sitting down together to watch a particular video, TV show, or movie makes me want to grab the nearest LEGO and gouge out my eyes, then that show is a <strong>big <em>no<\/em><\/strong> in my book.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>My reasoning is mostly selfish because:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>I know I&rsquo;ll end up hearing the show in the background anyway.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>My child will pick up certain lines and repeat them over and over <em>and over<\/em>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Kids love to take 45 minutes to give you a play-by-play of the 20-minute episode they just watched.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Then there&rsquo;s the whole &ldquo;filling their heads with junk&rdquo; side of things that I&rsquo;d like to avoid as much as possible.<\/p>\n\n\n<style>.kb-table-of-content-nav.kb-table-of-content-id_1179b9-88 .kb-table-of-content-wrap{padding-top:0px;padding-right:0px;padding-bottom:0px;padding-left:0px;border-top-width:0px;border-right-width:0px;border-bottom-width:0px;border-left-width:0px;}.kb-table-of-content-nav.kb-table-of-content-id_1179b9-88 .kb-table-of-contents-title-wrap{padding-top:0px;padding-right:0px;padding-bottom:0px;padding-left:0px;}.kb-table-of-content-nav.kb-table-of-content-id_1179b9-88 .kb-table-of-contents-title{font-weight:regular;font-style:normal;text-transform:uppercase;}.kb-table-of-content-nav.kb-table-of-content-id_1179b9-88 .kb-table-of-content-wrap .kb-table-of-content-list{font-weight:regular;font-style:normal;margin-top:var(--global-kb-spacing-sm, 1.5rem);margin-right:0px;margin-bottom:0px;margin-left:0px;}<\/style>\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"videos-for-kids\">Videos for Kids Don&rsquo;t Have to Be Cringe-Worthy<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>When I come across a video for my kids that&rsquo;s a diamond in the rough &ndash; one that makes them think, opens their eyes about the world, or shares a meaningful life lesson without being annoyingly preachy &ndash; I will happily watch it <strong>with<\/strong> them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And then I add that video to a special list I&rsquo;ve been curating for eight years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I first started keeping this list when my oldest was five and I would come across a video I wanted to watch with her. Her younger sister Bailey was just a baby at the time, and I wanted to remember the best videos to share with Bailey when <em>she<\/em> was old enough.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Not only are these short videos for kids <strong>high quality<\/strong> and enjoyable to watch for both kids and parents (no Caillou here!), the conversations we have as a family after watching them are PURE GOLD.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It&rsquo;s like you can literally see the little gears turning in their heads as they think about the world in a different way.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<!--more-->\n\n\n\n<p>You won&rsquo;t even mind watching these videos multiple times because they&rsquo;re <strong>that<\/strong> good.
